They are distinguished according to their parts that control the flow of the water.

Ball Faucets

Ball faucets were the first washerless types of faucets that are most commonly used in kitchen and bathroom sinks. They can be classified by the ball-shape cap above the base of the nozzle of the faucet where the single handle can be moved. They are the first types of faucets that. And the ball-shaped cap and the plastic or metal ball inside of these faucets have slots which control the mixing temperature and the flow of the water that are coming from the faucet. Hence, they are the most subject to leaking compared to other washerless faucets.

Cartridge Faucets

These types of faucets are most used by those who would like their bathroom faucets to have separate controls for mixing the temperature. Cartridge faucets are available in either single handle or two handle stem cartridges.

Single cartridge faucets are operated by up and down motions for water volume regulation, while water temperature can be adjusted by left and right motions

Two handle stem cartridges are physically very similar to compression types of faucets, but they can be identified from each other from the way they are being turned off. Two handle cartridges are much easier to switch off, whereas the compression faucets require a pressure to fully stop the water from flowing.

Compression Faucets

Compression faucets have two handles used to control the temperature of the water. They are most used in old homes, since they have been in the market already for a long time. To turn off compression faucets, a certain force is required. And this is due to their system which uses glorified type of screws compression stems and washers at the end of them pressing against the valve seats.

Disc Faucets

Disc faucets are the latest in the modern bathroom faucet designs. These types of faucets have a large cartridge where two ceramic discs are located. These ceramic discs are used to control the flow and the temperature of the water. Disc faucets are the best types when you want to have stylish, durable, and less-maintenance faucets.
